Cedar Hill State Park From Joe Pool Lake

There’s something special about Cedar Hill that catches you by surprise in the best way. Maybe it’s the way nature and community seem to live side by side here, or maybe it’s the fact that you can spend your morning on a scenic trail and your afternoon sipping coffee in a locally owned café that knows your order by heart. Either way, every time I’m in Cedar Hill, I’m reminded why so many people are drawn to this part of DFW.

As we prepare to launch one of our newest listings in Cedar Hill, I thought it would be fitting to share a few of my personal favorite places around town. Here’s some spots that make this community feel welcoming, grounded, and full of life!

Start Your Morning at 1846 Coffee

One of my favorite local stops is 1846 Coffee. It’s the kind of place that feels warm the moment you walk in. Great coffee, friendly people, and an atmosphere that invites you to slow down for a minute. Whether you’re meeting a friend, catching up on work, or just enjoying a quiet morning, it’s one of those local gems that gives Cedar Hill its charm.

Explore the Trails at Cedar Hill State Park

If you know me, you know I love being outdoors, and Cedar Hill State Park is one of my favorite places in the area to do just that. For hiking, the Talala Trail is personally my favorite, especially around sunset. There’s something peaceful about being out there as the light starts to settle over the trees and the lake. It’s a reminder that even this close to Dallas, you can still find moments of quiet and wide-open Texas beauty.

And if like me, mountain biking is your speed, the DORBA Trail system is fantastic. It’s well-loved for a reason and gives riders everything from smooth flowing sections to more technical stretches. Having trails like this nearby is a huge part of what makes Cedar Hill such a unique place to live.

Spend Time at Cedar Ridge Preserve

Another local treasure is Cedar Ridge Preserve. The rolling hills, native trees, and scenic overlooks make it feel worlds away from the city. It’s one of the best places nearby for hiking, photography, or simply getting outside for a reset. What I appreciate most about Cedar Ridge is that it gives people a chance to reconnect with nature, family, or honestly just with themselves for a little while.

More Than a Place to Live

One thing I’ve learned while working at Mitchell Home Real Estate is this: people aren’t just buying homes. They’re choosing a lifestyle and a community they can see themselves growing into. That’s what makes Cedar Hill stand out. It offers the kind of balance that’s getting harder to find — beautiful outdoor spaces, locally owned businesses, and neighborhoods that still feel connected and neighborly. And for the families considering making a move here, I can honestly say Cedar Hill has a lot to offer beyond the front door of any home!

Matthew Mitchell

My name is Matthew Mitchell, and real estate has been part of my story long before it became my profession. Growing up in the industry gave me an early appreciation for what this work truly means—guiding people through one of the most important decisions of their lives with clarity, integrity, and care. What began as exposure quickly became a calling rooted in service, trust, and long-term relationships.
